Purpose of the Part

Hydro-Boost uses hydraulic pressure instead of engine vacuum to make the brakes easier to apply. When the operator presses the pedal, the booster taps hydraulic pressure to multiply the pedal force, and the master cylinder turns that into the pressure that applies the brakes. Because it runs off the hydraulic system, it makes strong assist even on a diesel with little vacuum, which is why lift trucks use it.

Issue Symptoms / When to Replace

A hard pedal that takes heavy effort, brake fluid leaking at the master cylinder, hydraulic fluid leaking at the booster, the pedal sinking or feeling spongy, and grabbing or uneven braking. Loss of assist means the operator is pushing the brakes with no help, which is a safety issue on a loaded truck.

Before replacing it, check the hydraulic supply and return lines and the fluid level, and bleed the brakes, since low pressure or air acts like a bad booster or master cylinder.

Brand Information

Bosch is one of the original brake system manufacturers and builds this Hydro-Boost unit to the pressure and assist the lift truck's brake system is designed around. On a brake part, the internal seals and machining are what make it reliable and safe. A cheap copy that leaks or loses assist is not worth the risk on a machine that has to stop under load.

Installation Notes

Bench bleed the master cylinder before install so you are not chasing air afterward. Make sure the hydraulic supply and return lines are clean and connected correctly, then bleed the brakes fully. Check for both hydraulic and brake fluid leaks under pressure before returning the truck to service.

How to Identify an OEM Part

A genuine unit has the Bosch name and the part number on the assembly. Check the number matches your order and compare the port locations, pushrod and mounting to the unit coming off. Copies usually differ in port or mounting position and use lower grade seals.
