Description

Mack 23378071 Shift Selector - Genuine Mack Gear Selector for mDRIVE Transmission

The Mack 23378071 is a genuine shift selector for the mDRIVE automated transmission. It is the pad the driver uses to select drive, neutral, reverse and manual mode, and it sends those requests to the transmission control over the data bus. Fits Mack trucks with the mDRIVE.

Purpose of the Part

The mDRIVE has no mechanical linkage to the transmission. When the driver picks a gear, the selector sends that as a signal and the transmission control does the rest. So the selector is purely an input device, but the truck will not move without it working.

Issue Symptoms / When to Replace

No response when selecting a gear, the display not lighting or reading wrong, the truck stuck in neutral, intermittent gear selection, and transmission or selector communication faults.

Check the connector and harness first. Spilled drinks and moisture at the console are a common cause since it sits right by the cup holders, and a corroded connector reads the same as a failed selector.

Brand Information

Mack and Volvo are the same company, and the mDRIVE is Mack's version of the Volvo I-Shift, so many transmission parts cross between them. The selector is matched to the truck's software, so a genuine Mack unit is the one that configures and communicates correctly.

Installation Notes

1. Disconnect the batteries before unplugging it.
2. Check the connector for corrosion or spilled fluid and clean or repair as needed.
3. Plug in the new selector and make sure the connector locks.
4. Some applications need the selector configured to the truck with the Mack software, check whether yours does before returning it to service.
5. Cycle the key and confirm all gear positions register before driving.

How to Identify an OEM Part

Check the Mack part number on the label against your order. Compare the connector, button layout and shape to the selector coming off.
