Purpose of the Part

The 50MT is a heavy duty starter for large 24V diesels. The solenoid throws the pinion into the ring gear and sends current to the motor to crank the engine, then kicks back out once it fires. Being a 24V heavy duty unit, it depends on good batteries, cables and grounds to pull the current it needs.

Issue Symptoms / When to Replace

No crank or slow crank, a single click at the key, grinding, the starter spinning without engaging, or staying engaged after start. Heat soak no-crank when the engine is hot is common on these.

Check the batteries, cables and grounds first, on a 24V system a weak connection or one bad battery causes the same slow crank and no crank. Check the ring gear teeth if you hear grinding.
