The Cummins 4384577 is a genuine Cummins exhaust gas temperature sensor. It is a thermistor probe: the ECM feeds it a 5 volt reference, resistance changes with exhaust temperature, and the ECM converts the returned signal voltage into a temperature reading. Those readings are what the ECM uses to decide when to regenerate and how the SCR should operate.
