The Cummins 4902925PX is a genuine fuel injector for the 11L ISM, QSM and M11 engines. It is driven off the camshaft and controlled by an electronic solenoid, spraying fuel into the cylinder on ECM command. Comes with the seals for install.

Purpose of the Part

On these engines the camshaft drives the injector while the ECM controls the solenoid that meters the fuel. The lobe builds the pressure and the solenoid decides how much fuel goes in and when. So the injector both pressurizes and sprays, unlike a common rail setup where the rail holds pressure. A worn nozzle or a weak solenoid throws that cylinder off on its own.

Issue Symptoms / When to Replace

Rough idle, misfire on one cylinder, hard starting, low power, black smoke, poor mileage and cylinder cutout or balance codes calling out one hole. A leaking injector can wash the cylinder and put fuel in the oil, so a rising oil level that smells like fuel is worth checking.

Contaminated fuel and water are the usual cause. Run a cylinder cutout test to find the bad one and check the filters and fuel supply before pulling anything, since a supply problem looks the same on every cylinder.

Installation Notes

Injector timing and overhead (preload) must be set per the Cummins procedure for these engines. These are cam actuated, not common rail, so a bolt in without setting timing will run rough and can damage the injector.

Use new O-rings and seals, torque the hold down to spec, and replace the fuel filters and check the water separator before startup, since dirty fuel is the most common cause of repeat failures.
