Description

International 5011551R1 Fuel Metering Unit - Genuine International Aftertreatment HC Doser Metering Unit

The International 5011551R1 is a genuine metering unit for the aftertreatment hydrocarbon injection system on MaxxForce engines. It controls the fuel sent to the downstream doser during a regen, which is what burns off the soot in the DPF. Built by Bosch, comes with gaskets and seals.

Key Functions:

- Meters fuel to the aftertreatment doser for DPF regen
- Controls how much hydrocarbon is injected downstream
- Works off the engine controls during active regen

Purpose of the Part

To clean the DPF, the system sprays a little fuel into the exhaust during a regen and burns it to raise temperature and cook off the soot. This metering unit is what controls how much fuel goes to that downstream doser. It is part of the aftertreatment side, not the combustion fuel system, so it only works during regen. If it meters wrong the regen either does not complete or runs too hot.

Issue Symptoms / When to Replace

Failed or incomplete regens, frequent regen attempts, high DPF soot load, aftertreatment fuel or doser faults, and derate when the DPF cannot clear.

Before replacing it, check the doser and lines for restriction or crystallized fuel, check the DPF and sensors, and confirm the fuel supply to the unit. A plugged doser or a bad temperature reading will fail a regen with a good metering unit installed.

Brand Information

International is part of Navistar, and this unit is built by Bosch. It is matched to the aftertreatment control strategy, so a genuine unit meters the fuel the regen expects. A copy that meters differently leaves you with failed regens and soot faults even after the swap.

Installation Notes

1. Find out why the old unit failed, a plugged doser or restricted supply will take out the new one too.
2. Relieve fuel pressure before opening anything.
3. Check the doser and lines for restriction or fuel crystallization and clean or replace as needed.
4. Keep it clean and cap the fittings, debris fails these fast.
5. Install with the new gaskets and seals
6. Torque evenly to spec.
7. Prime, clear codes, then run a regen to confirm it completes before returning the truck to service.

How to Identify an OEM Part

Genuine units have the Bosch name and Bosch number 0 444 031 004 on the body along with the International part number. Check they match your order. Copies usually have printed markings and a connector or body that does not match the unit coming off.
