Purpose of the Part

The 5509698 sits ahead of the DPF and oxidizes hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide in the exhaust. During active regeneration it burns the fuel delivered by the dosing injector to raise exhaust temperature high enough for the DPF to burn off accumulated soot.

Issue Symptoms / When to Replace

- Failed or repeating regens, rising DPF differential pressure, aftertreatment derate. Physically: plugged or damaged inlet face, cracked substrate, exhaust leaks at the joints.
- A plugged DOC usually has an upstream cause - dosing injector, turbo seals, fuel injectors. Fix that first or the replacement plugs too.

Installation Notes

Note orientation and sensor port positions before removal. Inspect the DPF behind it before closing up. After install, check for leaks and run a stationary regen.

How to Identify an OEM Part

- Cummins logo and Cummins part number tag on the housing. Confirm the number on the tag matches 5509698.
- Aftermarket units carry their own numbers: C0349-ID, C20-0134, XQ0461, GSEI-564, 58086, 58312. If the housing shows one of those instead of a Cummins number, it is not genuine.
