Purpose of the Part

Spring brakes work backwards from service brakes, air holds them off and losing air lets the springs apply them. This valve is how the driver controls that on purpose. Pull the lever and it dumps the air out of the spring brake circuit to park the truck, push it in and it refills that circuit to release. It also has an automatic feature that applies the brakes if system pressure drops too low.

Issue Symptoms / When to Replace

The park brake not holding or not releasing, air leaking at the valve or out the exhaust port, the lever not staying in position, and slow release. A valve that leaks constantly bleeds air and can drag system pressure down.

Before replacing it, check the lines and fittings and the spring brake chambers, since a leak or a bad chamber acts the same as a bad valve. Confirm the system builds and holds normal air pressure.
