Description

Detroit Diesel A0000900069 Fuel Metering Unit - Genuine Detroit Quantity Control Valve for DD13, DD15, DD16

The Detroit Diesel A0000900069 is the genuine fuel metering unit that bolts to the front of the Bosch high pressure pump on the drive side of the engine. It controls how much fuel the pump sends to the rail, which is what holds rail pressure where the ECM wants it. Bosch number F00N210223.

Key Functions:

- Controls how much fuel goes to the high pressure rail
- Holds rail pressure steady off ECM command
- Mounts on the front of the Bosch high pressure pump

Fitment & Specifications:

- Detroit DD13, DD15, DD16, 2007 up
- EPA07 and EPA10
- Freightliner Cascadia, Coronado, Western Star
- Bosch F00N210223

Note: Verify fitment with us before ordering to ensure the correct part for your application.

Purpose of the Part

The metering unit is what decides how much fuel the high pressure pump actually pumps. The ECM watches rail pressure and opens or closes this valve to keep it where it needs to be. Its a solenoid, so it moves off electrical signal, not mechanically. If it stops holding position the rail pressure wanders and the engine runs bad even though the pump and injectors are fine.

Issue Symptoms / When to Replace

Surging idle is the most common reason this valve gets replaced. Along with that you get rail pressure codes like SPN 164, 1077 and 157, hard starting, low power, stalling and a truck that runs rough at light load.

Before you swap it, check the fuel filters and look for air getting in on the suction side, since a restriction or an air leak makes the rail pressure move around the same way. Bad fuel and debris also take these out, so if the pump has been apart or the fuel was contaminated, look at that first.

Brand Information

Detroit sources this valve from Bosch and it is matched to the high pressure pump and the ECM's rail pressure control. The ECM is constantly adjusting this valve to hold pressure, so a valve that responds differently than the original leaves you with the same surge and pressure codes you were trying to fix. Thats the common complaint with cheap copies on this part.

Installation Notes

1. Find out why the old one failed, dirty fuel or a bad pump will do it again.
2. Change the fuel filters and check the suction side for air leaks.
3. Keep everything clean and cap the openings, debris is what kills these.
4. New O-rings, do not reuse the old ones.
5. Torque the bolts evenly to spec, its a small valve and easy to warp.
6. Prime the system, then clear codes and watch rail pressure at idle before sending it out.

How to Identify an OEM Part

Genuine units have the Bosch name, logo and the Bosch part number F00N210223 stamped or etched into the body, plus the Detroit part number. Make sure it matches what you ordered. Copies usually have printed markings, missing Bosch numbers.
