The Detroit Diesel A0034461002 is a genuine CPC4 common powertrain controller for NAFTA HDEP engines, EPA10 through GHG17. Purpose of the Part

The CPC is the chassis brain. Everything the driver does goes through it first, throttle position, cruise, PTO, engine brake, then it sends the request ECM which controls fuel and timing. It also holds all the truck's parameters, idle shutdown, PTO settings, and drives the gauges. When the CPC quits, the engine side can be perfectly good and the truck still will not start or take throttle.

Issue Symptoms / When to Replace

No start or starts sometimes, dead pedal, no communication with the CPC, dead gauges, cruise or PTO not working, and codes all over the truck that will not clear.

Water and corrosion in the plugs is usually what does it, along with jump starting or welding on the truck without pulling the batteries. Before you replace it check the pins for corrosion or bent terminals, check battery voltage and grounds, and look the harness over for rubbed wires. Low voltage and a bad ground act just like a dead module.

Detroit builds the CPC along with the ECM and the DiagnosticLink software, so the module, the programming and the settings files all come from the same place. The programming is tied to the VIN, which is what keeps a genuine unit good to work on at any Detroit dealer. Modules from anywhere else will usually power up but not take the right file, or get kicked back on an update.

Installation Notes

This is not a plug and play part. It has to be programmed to the VIN with DiagnosticLink before the truck will run, so take it to a Detroit dealer or a shop that has DDDL. If the old one still talks, have them pull the settings off it first so they can load them into the new one.

Pull the batteries before you unplug anything, and check the plugs for corrosion or bent pins and fix any bad wiring first, or the new module ends up like the old one.
